Pop-Ups have become more widely used in Thailand in recent years, by both western and and Thai anglers, who like to use them as a better quality alternative to poly balls and other cheap items used to “pop-up” the hook around a suspended ground bait ball.
Pop Ups have obvious advantages over poly balls, not least of which is they are made of ingredients the fish can actually consume, but perhaps more importantly they contain attractants and come in flavors that the fish find appealing. They can also absorb various glugs and other attractants making them useful as both mid water and bottom bait
